PLEASE SEE below, opportunities to help.
We need help in all areas, particularly foster homes!
BECOME A FOSTER FAMILY
THIS is one of our most critical needs! We currently get so many calls about strays from both local residents and local governmental agencies. So many times we have to turn these folks away with a heavy heart. The core group of awesome folks who make up this group already have way too many foster animals in their care. A group of 3 or 4 people cannot shoulder the burden alone. Being unable to help these precious pets is the worst thing that could happen to that particular pet. Many times person finding them will simply release them back out into the world by re-dumping them OR turn them over to a kill shelter. As many of you are aware, our part of the country is not a good place to be a stray. Our local shelters are always over burdened and full, especially during summer months. For example, the EBR Public Shelter sometimes takes approx. 60-70 animals in PER DAY during summer months! Part of the areas we serve don't even have a public shelter. Being a foster is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have! We realize if you've never fostered before, it can be a bit scary. But we ask you to give it a try at least once! All of the excuses we frequently hear (i.e. "I'm afraid I won't be able to let them go" or "My pet may not like the foster", etc.) will prove false once you've done it. It's really a WIN/WIN for both you & the pet.....you get to LOVE and help a needy pet find a better life, and then you get to hand it over to an eager adopter having changed a life & made a new friend in this! Won't you please join our Family of Fosters today?? We promise you won't regret it!
FUNDRAISING & MARKETING
Ah yes..that ugly old "F" word... "Fundraising". Oh how we wish we could do this all without needing any of those darn funds! Sadly, that old adage that it's "all about the Benjamins" is true. In our case, it's all about the dogs; however, it does get expensive taking care of these precious pups. When we have an intake, the first thing we do is get their medical needs attended to. Sometimes they have illnesses or injuries. They are all tested for diseases which may be communicable since they will be housed with other dogs. Sadly, in the deep south, a large percentage of strays are HeartWorm Positive, which requires expensive treatments. We seek out as many grants and donations by corporate donors as possible, but there always seems to be a small group of folks who foot most of the bill....we'd love it if you'd join us to become a donor. If you'd like to be a regular giver, we will soon have it set up for automatic monthly donations. Giving to the large national and state humane societies are important, but with our group, you know your dollars are helping sweet pups right in your own backyard! (well maybe not literally in YOUR specific backyard..but you know what we mean!) Please contact us if you'd like to help us with fundraising or if you'd like to become a donor. PLEASE become a DONOR today!
We plan to have regular adoption events for not only any animals in our care, but also to help out local shelters and/or rescue groups. We need volunteers willing to help set-up and attend various adoption events. This would entail helping set up kennels, tables, food & watering stations, etc. for the adoption event. Helping during the event by walking the dogs and/or talking with potential adopters about the pet and various other needs during the adoption event. Also possibly transporting pets to and from foster homes, as well as taking down adoption equipment, etc. PLEASE join this Vital part of our mission! This is where these sweet souls lives can change forever by finding new families to love! Become an Adoption Event Volunteer today!
STRAY RECOVERY TEAM ("SRT")
We are currently partnered with "Lost Pets of Zachary & the Felicianas" Facebook page, as well as handling other tips that we receive to help rescue and recover"DUMP" dogs or those who reported abandoned or wandering. These animals are in danger of being out in the elements as well as being struck by traffic. We are looking for folks who are willing to join the current team of dedicated volunteers, under the direction of an experienced dog capture team member. You must be willing to be "boots on the ground" and go out into the local areas to help capture and/or retrieve pets. It can sometimes be a dirty job. Many times it involves climbing under houses or fences, crawling through mud, or other unsavory areas. Remember, many strays or "dump" dogs are afraid of humans. The only humans some of them have ever known were abusive or abandoned them. Volunteering for this unit requires being physically fit and available for last minute rescues. It can be a very challenging, yet VERY rewarding experience to help capture one of these frightened, vulnerable pets. If you think you're up to the challenge, please let us know! Become a SRT Volunteer Today!
NEGLECT CRUELTY TEAM ("NCT")
We have a small, select team of dog lovers who are the "voice" of those poor neglected or abused pets in our area. Once a citizen reports the neglect and/or abuse of a local pet, we contact the local authorities to report it. This team of fearless volunteers are dedicated to following up to ensure that the case is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and alerting our volunteers and other dog lovers in the area if the neglect and/or abuse isn't handled in a timely manner or in accordance with state and local animal cruelty laws. Our number ONE goal is to get the pet removed from the situation and into our system of finding them a new human who will love them. This sometimes involve safe & legal surveillance, photographing pets in bad situations. After a case is confirmed and established, we work with local authorities to receive the intake of an animal that is removed from a home. This is a very important part of our mission. We always handle these situation with utmost respect for law enforcement personnel involved and ALWAYS within the confines of the law, with the safety of our volunteers AND the pet in mind. We are not currently asking for volunteers for this group; however, if you think it would be a good fit for you, please feel free to let us know so we can keep you on a list if we need help in the future!
