Must Luv Dogs was born out of a desire to help the many lost, abandoned and dumped dogs in our area. Our founder, Cindy Shotwell, began in 2012 with a simple facebook page for Lost Pets of Zachary, LA & the Felicianas. What began as an attempt to help folks reconnect with their lost pets, soon made her realize that the vast majority of the pets in these areas were not lost, but instead were being FOUND. Sadly, this Facebook page identified a huge problem of dumped or abandoned dogs. The lack of any type of animal control in East Feliciana, in conjunction with the public shelter in East Baton Rouge being a kill shelter, made this a tough situation. Cindy, along with her fellow dog rescuers, Doug Atkins, and Meredith House, began to rescue dogs identified on the Lost Pets page. It became quite time consuming, as well as expensive getting them all vetted. Also, it soon became apparent that even if they were able to rescue these dogs, there was literally nowhere to send them. On top of these issues, in August of 2016 the Great Flood came and devastated the areas. After that date, the numbers of dogs without homes exploded. Cindy knew it was time to step up and follow God's direction to begin this rescue. She didn't do it alone, she relied on her Lost Pets team, as well as other dog loving friends. Relying on many years of combined dog rescue & foster experience, Must Luv Dogs was formed in September, 2017. The first adoption event was in October, 2017 & by the end of 2017, the group had rescued 49 dogs! One of the things that Cindy always says is that dogs are the most loyal of all of God's creatures. They never judge us. They never are disappointed in us, no matter how many times we may let them down. They are ALWAYS happy to see us and have a tail wag or lick on the nose to show us how much they love us. Yet, they are some of the most abused and neglected animals on the planet. Dogs can't walk up to a door, knock and ask for help if they were dumped in the middle of a strange place by some uncaring human. They can't go use the phone to call for help if they are starving. They depend solely on us humans to be their voices. Must Luv Dogs adopted it's mission statement to reflect the calling it has to help these helpless creatures. It is: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves." Proverbs 31:8. This sums up what our mission is all about. No matter what happens in our efforts to save and change the lives of dogs, in the end, it always comes down to speaking up for these precious 4-legged souls.
